Tile latest telegrams from Italian Headquarters state that the Tenth .Army is advancing rapidly.lt is already using a large number of abandoned Austrian batteries. The advance renders the Austrian posMou perilous to the southward, as the heavy inundations of the entire low-lying region along the coast allow only tlie narrowest territory for an eventual retreat. STIRRING EXPLOITS DURING THE ADVANCE FORDING THE SWOLLEN PIAVE. Rome, October 30. The British and Italians, after occupying the islaaids in the Piave near Grave di Papadopoli, waded over the river, and, continuing the. charge, cleared the first .line of the enemy on the other bank. The Italians on the right wing waded breast-deep under heavy fire, carrying machine-guns and grenades. The defence was stubborn, but the'Bersnglieri, rallying to bugle calls, swept all before them. Tho fording of the Piave was a great feat. • The river was swollen by the violent rain, which fell in torrents, and tho 6treani was a hundred yards wide. The first storm troops crossed in boats to assist in the construction of bridges. These were built, five times, but ovory time were destroyed iby artillery. The sixth effort succeeded.—Aus.-N.Z.
