The "Winton Record" reports: "It will bo remembered that a highly-priced Fi'iesian bull, purchased up north by !Ur. Alei. Pent, of Dipton, viciously attacked and ki.lled a man at Thorndon Station, Wellington. Well, the animal duly arrived at its destination. The other day it attacked Mr. Peat, got him down, aDd mauled him badly. Mr. Peat had a miraculous escape, and it is stated he has since found it necessary to ehoot the animal. It is a big loss, but the risk of keeping , an animal with such 'offensive propensities' was too great." '
How the purchasing power of the Sovereign has been dwindling? down is again demonstrated by the price we are now paying for our smokes. Not so long ago we could buy best Aromatic brands at Is. per 2oze, To-day they charge you Is. 3d. for ljozs,, an advance of more than 40 per cent. Fortunately, we are not entirely dependent upon imported brands —the popular N.Z. grown Gold Pouch and Three Diamonds are still obtainable at pre-war prices. Quite recently a wonderful improvement in the flavour of these tobaccos hue. been effected by applying a new toasting process. Smokers nro advised to try this new toasted tobacco; its flavour will agreeably surprise them. It is a healthy emofco too. because of its small percentage of NicoA tine. Even those whose nerves or heart would bo affected by strong tobaccos from overseas can smoke Gold Pouch and Three Diamonds with impunity. Is. for 2ozs.—Advt.
