Daniels, Secretary of the United States Navy, has announced that more than 250,000 mines were laid in tbo great j nuti-subiuarine minefield across tho North I Sea from.the Norwegian coa6t to within I a fow miles of Scotland.. 'The Brit- | ish and American Navies co-operated in ! laying this anme barrage, which has j proved a most effective measure against : the U-boats. A mine-loading plant had j been established, with a capacity of more | than a thousand mines a day. _ The j minefield was the greatest m the liistory , of tlio world.
