MASTERTON V. WELLINGTON SOUTH. The above two-round match was concluded yesterday at the .Newtown Public Library, the visitors returning home by the afternoon train. The homo team gained further ground in the second round-mostly at the lower boards-and were finally returned winners );y :M games to 10. At the conclusion tf the match Mr. Jones (captain) returned thanks for the kosmtality and kindnesses to his team. He made it clear that they had''thoroughly enoyed. their visit, their only regret being that in 'ho absence ot the four Kummcrs (of whom two are away at tho war), Moore, Walden, and others, they had not put up a 'better fi"ht. Anderson (captain), who voiced the pleasure experienced, by the home team in renewing old friendships and the making 'of new ones, this being of far more account than the mere winning or losing or games.
