SOUTH AFRICA'S DEATH-ROLL.
Cape Town, October 28. An official statement estimates the deaths resulting from the influenza epidemic in the Cape Province alone .at 7400 of which number 25 per cent, were Europeans. As the Kimberley death roll is now nearly 5000 it is probable that the total mortality in the Union approximates 20.000. The epidemic is everywhere abating except in Rhodesia, where it is at its hSght.-Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
WORLD-WIDE EPIDEMIC. (Roc. October 29, 7.30 p.m.)
London, October 28. The influenza epidemic is world-wide— reports come from India, South Africa, Argentina, and Scandinavia. There have been 13,394 deaths in Bombay alone. The number of people who died in a week in Vienna was 1753. The supply of coffins became exhausted, and some of the bodies had to be kept in ice for weeks, and then buried in/paper sacks. Fifty-eight persons were picked up m the London streets on Saturday and Sunday. Tho East Ham Council has closed the elementary schools and forbidden the children to attend the kinema theatres—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
