" The We'tralia arrived in tho stream from Melbourne at 1 o'clock this morning. lUVEBINA DELAYED. Yesterday's heavy rain made it inconvenient for the Rivenna to sail last night for Sydney and Hobnrt as she has still some inward cargo to , dtschurge. Accordingly her departure was poßtponetl till 10 o'clock to-night. The southerly gale of yesterday interfered with local' shipping considerably. Rough trips were reported by arriving vessels and several which were due, but .did not arrive,-are presumably sheltering. Weather similar to that at Wellington yesterday prevailed generally a one both the East and West Coast, Little labourin° work was done on the waterfront yesterday, consequently the -whole -ol tho "mosquito" fleet was delayed The only departures were the Maori and Mapourika. On account of the bad weather yesterday tho Calm for Dunedin, Timaru and LyttottoS. and the Putiki for Dunedmdirect could not receive cargo. To-dn. they are advertised to receive cargo till 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. respectively.
Tha Union Company announces that the Wnnakii will sail for Timaru and tho - Rosnmonrl for Bluff on Saturday, with J local cargo. The Gliidbrook, formerly known as tho County of Angleeea, which is beinK fitted out at Port, Chalmers as a sea-going barque, is now taking in general cargo (reports tho Dunedin "Star"). The riggers have croeeed the foreyard and tho mainyard. The foro topgallant mast and the mizzen topmast are not yet in place. When tho Union Company's Wanaka was : berthing at Wellington on Wednesday afternoon the struck the Railway Wharf and received a couulo of large dents in her side. The repair -work is at present being carried out. Owing to the southerly gale compelling the Huia to put back to New Plymouth it is improbable that she will leave Wellington before Tiiecdoy for that port, Tlio Northern Chief, which is being refitted for seagoing use as a foTe-and-nft schooner, in expected to hr completed neit week, when she will load cargo for the Islands. Captain J. B. Munns, formerly master .of the barnue Eona. has been appointed master of her, ... Settlement has been reached in the deadlock tjjat arose in Auckland over the cartage of cargo discharged from the Niagara. The men demanded from the employers, who nre members of the Master Carriers' Association, a cuarantee of payment of expenses in case of infection, similar to that civon by thn Union Comnanv to vatcrsldo-workcrs discharging the vessel. The difficulty was overcome by the employers inpurince the men Concerned against risk of infection.
