Aiany pretty fancy dresses were worn, and some original ideas had been pu'c into extcution. Of posters there were not many. An effective one represented l'diance butter, with pictures of the familial rooster much in- /evidence. T'nere were also to. be seen Bed Cross nurses, gypsies, Eastern ladies (a particularly charming-costume being carried out in tones or b'lue), an excellent representation of ' America," another of the Allies, butterflies, moths, .a bather, a representation of "Flames," Indian squaws, ■some very charming Pierrots and Pieriettes, in black and scarlet, and others again in black and white, and representatives of many nations and many callings. Prizes had been donated by some well-known Wellington firms, and the judges had no easy task in awarding the prizes. As is usimlly the case, fancy dress was much more popular with the feminine members of the gathering than with the male, the latter preferring the ordinary evening dress, or ilannels, others, again, being in uniform. As a great deal of liefp had been received iii the way of subscriptions, gifts, etc., bj members of the Jewish Club and friends, practically the whole gross proceeds will ba handed over to the fund tor UlO Crippled Soldiers' Hostel. The committee secretaries were Ji.r. Markham (club secretary), Sir. Selig, and Mr. Pitt. The Mayor (Sir. J. P. Luke) was present, accompanied by the Mayoress, and also present were Captain and Sirs. Hall-Thompson. Quite a number of spectators occupied seats in.the gallery.
