MAGISTRATE'S COURT
TWICE TORTEDOKD SAILOR. Only a lirief sittiiiE of the Magistrate's- Court was held on Siiturday morning, Mr. F. V. Frazer, 531,, prosiding. A sailor named Horatio Acosta pleaded guilty to insobriety, and to resisting "a, polico constablo in the execution of his duty. The accused stated that he bad been twice torpedoed. Ho had never been before a Court before. On the charge of resisting arrest, Acosta was fined £1, in default sev-enty-two hours' imprisonment, and en tho" first charge he was convicted hud discljarjittl. Dick Pa<!;e. was fined £1, in default seventy-two hours' imprisonment, for committing' a nuisance in a. public street; and.wns convicted and discharged for drunkenness. Patrick Doran admitted bavins " sff( l obscene languagn in Tory Street and ;i further charge of drunkenness, nnd for , the use of the language lie was fined £2, in default seven days' imprisonment, being convicted and discharged for insobriety. For drunkenness, Nellie Nel.son was lined l()s., in-default seventy-two Tiours' imprisonment, and was prohibited. Kchvaid liloomlield was charged with drunkenness, and with the breach of a prohibition order. Acting-Siib-lnspeclor Emerson said tho accused.earned good money on the wharf, hut seemed to spend most of it in drink, and was not supporting; his family as well as ho might do. It was desired that the case'should not he disposed of until tho polico had made certain inquiries respecting the position of accused's family. • His Worship reserved his decision in the matter until next Saturday.
