On leaving Sydney for Melbourne on October 10, General Pan wroto "to the peoplo of New South Wales," as follows: —"At the time of quitting New South Wales, I am glad to bn ablo to express to its inhabitants the deep gratitude of the French Mission for the cordial and spontaneous welcome which has been siiven us. Wo have constant?) , felt that we were wirromided by an atmosphere of sympathy, tho sincerity of which was evident, and which went to our very hearts. Wo knew also that through cur persons the greetings of Now South Wales went to France. And in tho name of France I thank you."
