DEATH UNDER AN ANAESTHETIC By Telegraph.—Press Association. > ■ Auoklancl, October 18. Lionel R. Stayson, a clerk. 25 years of age, died at the hospital while under'an anaesthetic during an operation. The Coronor found 'that tlie operation was necessary, and had been performed with proper skill and care. Christchurch, October 18. Frank Edward Webb, aged thirtyseven years, living by himself nt Neiv Brighton, was found dead, shot .with a revolver. Deceased had been vory depressed lately owing to' ill-health. At an inquest a vordict of suicide whilo of unsound mind was returned. x
BOY INJURED AT RAILWAY CROSSING.Palmerston North, October 18. A boy named Percy Tliomas, aged ten years, was knocked over by ft,train while crossing the Inw on lie way to the Terrace End School, and was badly injured on head and body. He was takwi to the hospital in an unconscious condition. SUPPOSED DROWNING CASE AT MATAKANA. Auckland, Ootober 18! , Details of a supposed drowning accident are 'reported from Mataliana. Frank Witton and his soil' Frank put out from Matakana Beach in a boat on Wednesday night, with cream to bo put on board a steamer hound from Omaha to Auckland. As they did not return search was madp during the night, and early yesterday morning the boat was found overturned at the lower end of one of the numorous inlets on the coast. There was no trace of'the Witteii'S. Mr. Whitten is a cousin of Mr. J. H. Gunson. Mayor of Auckland, and has seven children.
TRAMOAR AND CART COLLIDE. Yesterday afternoon the horse iiii a baker's cart owned by P. S. Taylor and driven by Richard Stevons on emerging from a side street into Manners Street bolted, taking fright at a flapping tarpaulin. It shied sharply, with the 'result that the cart collided with a tramear bound for Lambton Quay. One of the shafts pierced tho frame of the traraoar and struck a Toiinjr lady, Miss Harvey, of Hanson Street, who received a severe blow in the back. She was taken into Mr. Brittain's chemist shop, rnd was attended, there by Di\ Giesoii. It was found on examination > lint she had sustained nothing more than a severe Rhock, and she was removed to her home for treatment.
