OWNERSHIP CLAIMED BY AKAWA TRIBE. By Telegraph.—Press AißOciation. Rotorua, October 16. The claim of tho Arawa Tribe for the ownership of tho lakes was -.pened today before Judge Wilson, of the Native Land Court. Mr.' F. Earl appeared for the claimants, *>nd Mr. J. k Prendeville for the Crown. Counsel agreed to take the case of Lakes Rotorua and Rotoiti as a test case.. Mr. Earl addressed the Court, claiming that the lands round the lakes and tho lakes themselves were in undisputed possession of tho Natives till recent vears, when tho Government, having bought part of the lands, charged the Natives for fishing licenses. Mr. Earl's address is expected to continue through to-morrow.
