H AWKE'S BAY SHOW
• HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL GATHERING i
:THE PRINCIPAL AWARDS Br'Teleerarh;—Fresß Association. Hastings, October 16. Hiiwke's Bay is looking its best for. t the annual spring "show, which was opened ito^Jay,,.under most favourable auspices;" Tho entries, numerically, are;oyer. 600 in excess oMast year, the. stock classes contributing largely to the big advance. This increase is most gratifying to all concerned, particularly in view of tho fact that the shortage of labour has been such a serious' handicap to breeders. The comparison in entries for tho war period is interesting, and is as follows: — 1914.1915.1916.1917.1918. , Sheep--.- 313 328 331 266 357 Cattle "..... 221 212 233 211 221 Horses 467 404 397 373 401 Tigs 28 '28 62 69 68 Grain and seeds. ... 149 169 — — — Farm and. There was'very..little, competition among the thoroughbred and' draught classes, but in the harness and light horse division a very fine lot was put into the ring. ■ P.'.C "Ward's Newton s Favourite and Mrs: Arthur Wellwood s Dawn - annexed '.the .'championship ■ honours in the male and female classes respectively. • Harness horses had ' good. represen- •'■ fation, and ■' Miss Mailer's Bachelor ■■ again succeeded in winning the championship. .
