BILLIARDS

Sis games in the Alcock BilliardDiner Tournament were played last night, and some of the results came somewhat of a surprise. T. Ingley, soni , ~' of Greytown, was rather handsomely beaten by Burd, who played extraordinarily well,/and had the added advantage of a fortunate run of the ball. The visitor did not piny as well as last year, neither did he have reasonable good fortune in the matter of "leaves." Still, his best break of 54 Was very nicely compiled, and embodied several difficult and skilfully-ex-ecuted shots. The game between Hempton and Hatch was so closely contested thai right up to the_ very last moment the result was in doubt, the former player proving successful by some very few points. Jackson, who was perhaps a little too well treated by'the handicapper, had no difficulty in defeating Broughton, who has not previously played in these tourneys. In the game between Billman and Alger, there was never more than a few points separating the players, and matters throughout' were as close as they could possibly be, Billman ultimately proving successful. Holcroft, playing at his best, won his game against. Sutherland (who was off colour) by a comfortable margin. The Inst game was between Hughes and Renouf, ,bolth players making their first appearance in tournament play. They were well matched, and the game proved a very close one. The hest breaks in tho evening were —Tngley 54, Burd 51, 27, 25. To-night at 7 o'clock R. Ingley plays J. Ingley, \,and Kean plays Morse. These pnmes complete the second round. In the third round Burd plays Hempton, and Jnekson plays Hughes at 8' p.m. Then Holcroft and Billman play the winners of the last two sec-ond-round games. \ •
