When tho sucund torpedo struck the vessel both lvoro flung into the water, liaise floated for a considerable time, until lie drifted towards a lifeboat which was crowded. Ho held on to the side of the lifeboat for threequarters of an hour with his uninjured hand, until he was'exhausted, and was then hauled into the boat by means cf ropes round his body.
