P?3 the Editor.) Sir—l would call the attention of tho stewards of the Wellingtor Racing Club to the' style of starting adopted recently at, Dannevirko. Otaki, and Chrietchurch. At each meeting the Btarter dispatched tho fields in about three minutes. Each starter vied with the others to get a record. Our Wellington meeting takes place in a fortnight, and I trust tho stewarde will ask their starter to give quick dispatches to the fields. Wellington starts have at times been nainfnlly slow and strung-out. No doubt Mr. O'Connor wants to give every horeo a- chance. Still it does not retiuire twenty minutes, us often hanpens. to get the field off The stewards should erect steps nt the startinir-nnst to enable the starter to get up quietly instead of balancing on a three-cornered rail lllra p.l.mvlin, th« wiw-wMker.
