THE IMPERIAL SUPPLY PURCHASE. London, October 12. . The terms of the purchase of the Australian exportable surplus of cheese by the Imperial Government have now been settled. There is no settlement yet of the terms of purchase of the exportable surplus of New Zealand butter and cheese.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. SHORT RATIONS IN LONDON. London, October 13 Owing to the shortage of butter supplies, ft ration of only one, ounce per head is to bo distributed. There are, however, plentiful supplies of margarine available, and its price will probably be lowered. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Aesii. It is reported in Wellington that under the new agreement between the Australian Government and the Imperial authorities the price to be paid for Australian butter this season is 1755, piii cwt The price paid last season was lols:, with a share of i<ny profit made on distribution. This profit brought the actual price up to. 170s. per cwt., bo that, tho price ot 1755. per cwt. represents an increase of about id. per pound. It is stated that- the Imperial Government will retain the whole of any profit made on the distribution of the butter in the United Kingdom, t* ;,. expected that negotiations will be opened shortly between tho producers and the Government for the purchase of New Zealand butter and cheese during the coming season. The prico paid for New Headland butter last season was 157 a. per cwt., or 6s. better than,the Australian price. The matter has already received the attention of the Prime Minister during his visit to London.
