AMATEUR BILLIARD-DINER TOURNEY. This event, which is hold oach is looked forward to by a large number of householders, and there is general evidence that home billiards is becoming more and more popular. The 1918 tourney, for a silver cup presented by Messrs. Alcock and Co., Ltd., t«ramenced yesterday evening, when five games were played. The results.were as follow:- Holcroft, ree. 20, defeated Laws, scr.; R. Ingloy, sor., defeated Porteous, rec. 20; J. Ingley, juu,, sir., defeated Tucker, owes 800; Kean, rec. 40, defeated Porter, scr.; and Moree. rec. 20, defeated Watkins, reo. 30. Several of the games were very closely contested, and a very great deal of interest was displayed in the gamo between Tucker and Ingley, of Greytown. Tucker, who is in all probability the best player on a small table in New Zealand, had to concede his youthful opponent 300 points, and came within an ace of winning. Indeed, Tucker played in most sportsmanlike fashion, and made the game open. Ingley, who is merely a lad, plays good individual strokes,'but wants strengthening in tactics. Hβ deserves hie win, and had to play hard for it, as it was touch and go right up to tho last moment. When Tucker was 284 and Ingley 287 the latter secured his 13 and the tame. The best breaks were: Tucker, 32, £6, 40, 56, 28, 26, 48, 81. J. Ingley, 21, 18, 19; Porter, 23; Kean, 22; R. Ingley, 47, 21. , n , . To-night T. Ingley plays Burd and Hempton plays Hatch at 7 p.m.; Sutherland plays Holcroft and Alg.ir plays Billman at 8 o'clock; Broughton plays Jackson and Hughes plays Renout at 9 o'clock.
