Ho ? . was-alongsido the outsider, Graftella, at tho last fence, but he. tired to nothing, ■ ■ end,, despite the efforts' of his rider, he was ; beaten by a neck, while Glcnthorao, . was .several lengths away. Royal Btar, a good-looking 'Martian folding, and a winner at AShburton,, to-' •'tether with Warform,' divided the honours In the Maungatua Handicap, seven furlongs. ' In the .birdcage ■ Fabianus played ,Up,.and got rid bf his-ridor several times. ."After going: to .the post he bolted and' 'i&gain threw his rider, and was returned to thoi.birdcage. At tho start Warform, Red ITape and Sir Fanciful led, and tho order • was unchanged into the straight. Half way down the running Eoyal Star took charge and won easily from Sir Fanciful, with Arihia cloße up third, _Red Tape and '.Warform were':the-nexT'to finish. Of the runners in the M'Lean Stakes, tho Autumnus colt BoyaTStag was most fancied, ■: He began well; but soon lost his position, and Link Up, Marjery. and Mustard Pot headed him. into the straight. The favourite finished well, and got up on.the'post. Marjery-.was only a head away, and Mustard Pot was, a couple of lengths further, book. Link Up finished fourth, after getting ohopped out in the itralght. The winner is a raking big colt that is sure to do well.
Killard, Killjoy, Rose Pink, and Eorko'a Drift .was tho order of the favourites in the. big handioap. , At the start Killjoy assumed the. lead, ,and stayed thero till the.post,was reached.. Killard was nearosthcr at the Btraight'entrance, but/ho Boon.gave way to• Sedd-el-Bahr. The lastnamed finished determinedly, ,but Killjoy i had most in. Teservc, and won nicely by a baro length. Rose Pink was'-'well up the whole way, and finished third, while 'Killard was fourth.. Cynio was alow;to ; begin, and was in tho rear, throughout. She took charge at tho.turn into the straight,, and won. nicely from Red River, wliilo the judge was unable to separate Black Mountain and Red Eagle. Rokclaine avid Red River- led to tho turn/bnt both were in trouble when challenged by tho -winner, -..'■.- Samiel, who had defeated Kilbrogan in a gallop, was a good favourito in the concluding ovont, and, after a good race, the Dawnshire geldin?. headed Leaping' Burn a few strides' off the post.
