Superintendent Freeman, formerly of To ldiiti, took.over the control of the •Mnstertoii Firo Brigade this week. In the' Magistrate's Court to-day a young man named Alfred Taplin, who had been acting as assistant barman at tlio Taueru Hotel, was fined £20 for supplying liquor for consumption by Natives in a proclaimed area. John Joseph Oliver, licensee of the hotel, was fined £o'on a similar charge. ■ A number of Territorials who had failed to attend the training camp at Woodville were to-day fined 40s. each. \V. aiitchell pleaded guilty m the Magistrate's Court to-day to the theft of a bicycle. As ho was a married man with six children, and had previously borne a good character, ho was admitted to probation for six months. The Masterton Park bowling green, lawn tennis court, and croquet lawn are to he opened for the reason tomorrow.
