MAKARA AFFAIRS
COUNTY COUNCIL MEETING,
The Makara County Council met yesterday. Thore were present Councillors S. Bryant (chairman), J. H. Haggerty, A. J. Taylor, E. Windley, AV. E. Cook, and S. Bowler.
The shnirman and Councillor Haggerty reported that they had waited on. the Mayor of Wellington and the City Engineer with reference to the maintenance of the Ngahaurauga Gorge Road, and that the matter would como before the next meeting of the City Council. .
The appointment of John Bustard as poundkeeper was confirmed. ; The Health Inspector notified a caso of diphtheria near Johnsonville.
The chairman and Councillor Taylor are to inspect the places where slips liuve occurred on the Horokiwi Road, and if necessary have the urgent works carried out.
It was resolved to inform the Johnsonville School Committee that in proceeding; with the construction of the swimming pool as contemplated they would bo trespassing on council ground, and that as the council's conditions had not been complied' with they would bo well advised to' discontinue operations unless good cause for continuance were immediately shown.
It was decided that accommodation for bathers at Titahi Bay should be provided at onco.
The Knrori Borough Council is to lo requested to put Makara Hill in order. The chairman expressed great satisfaction at the manner in which the council's employees had carried out repairs to the Ngahauranga Gorge Road. The police are to he notified that metal, etc, is heiiif; removed from Ohiro Hay Road reserve, and requested to take steps to secure a conviction.
