METHODIST CHURCH
TARANASI STREET CIRCDIT,
Tho quarterly meeting of the Board of Management of the Taranaki Street Methodist. Church was held on 'Wednesday evening, and was presided over by the Rev. J. G. Chapman. The work of tho circuit, as revealed by the several returns presented, showed steady progress. . The membership leturns showed a small increase. Tho balancesheets retorted credit balances for Taranaki Street, £21 18s. sd. for the quarter, with a circuit credit of £240 17s. Bd.; Aro Street Mission, a credit of £4. These returns prove that a strong aggressive work is being carried on and evokes confidence and satisfaction. The attendance at public worship is well maintained, and tho ministrations of the pastor highly appreciated. This was evidenced, by. tho vote given confirming his appointment as superintendent of the circuit for the ninth vear, which was heartily accepted by the minister. The Brooklyn- portion of the circuit asked that the .Rev. J. IT. White be appointed for another vear. which was unanimously agreed to. the memorial to be sent to .conference for its approval. The meeting was in full sympathy with the desire of the ministers of the Presbyterian. Methodist, and Congregational Chinches to meet for the purpose of deepening the soirit of brotherhood and advancing the interests of church union,'and it was "decided to send representatives from the meeting. Messrs. W. E. Redstono and F. Clincher were appointed delegates to the annual synod next month, with Messrs. Kershaw, and Wallis a* substitute representatives. DONALD JTLEAN STREET CHURCH. The anniversary services of the Donald M'Loan Street Methodist Church were held on Sunday, when the Rev. E. Drake preached in the morning and the Rev. Dr. Pinfold in the .evening. The celebrations were concluded on Wednesday evening, when the annual concert was held. The Rev, Dr. Pinfold occupied the chair. Mr. C. Ridding, church treasurer, read an . encouraging report, showing that heavy. current expenses had been met,, and that £25 had this week been paid' off the debt, with the prospect of another £50 beiiig paid off within a month. This very satisfactory result was largely due to the efforts made by the Ladies' Guild, which is organising for a sale early in November. The concert programme was of a high order, and was contributed to by Misses ■Castle, M. Castle, Grenside, Mrs. Green (of Mosgiel), and Mr. W. Brown, the latter ifelighting his audience with his elocutionary numbers.
