October J3, ,7.25 p.m.) , ■ -• • London, October 7. , Mr. Gordon Gilmour, writing oa Suni'day, says:—"French civilians from ;Mpnt, Brebnin disclosed themselves to *ihe, Australians from caves, woods, and [deserted houses. They were mostly ibid men and women, and some cripples. jThey greeted' thoir deliverers,. with ipathetio enth-nsiasm. The Gentians -Lad rounded up all , 'the '■ able-bodied Usitizenßi"-and sent _them to the rear. iThey described their anxious days of .'Waiting while the advance waa in progress. It was strange to see old ■ women ' wearing steel helmets, which !,the Australians willingly gave up, talking back to where motor-car's were /Waiting. Some aged-women were killfed/by a shell outside :the Australian i Headquarters. The refugees', nervea 'were shattered by days of terrible shell(ing- while waiting in their /hiding-fplaces."-Aus.-N.Z.
