WALKING SKELETONS
WHAT THE GERMANS MAKE OP f■. , BRITISH PRISONERS. i . ■•■' London, October 5. : Tjie "Daily Chronicle" states that an bffibial White Paper will shortly be issued giving authenticated particulars bf the German treatment of British prisoners. The cases relate principally l to the employment of men in military Work immediately behind the lines, inahy being killed by shell-fire. Numbers'have been starved to death, and others have reached Germany in a dying condition, with their bodies wasted by overwork, disease, and insufficient food. They are described as walking skeletons. Cases are described where twelvestone .men dwindled to six stone in a few'months. 'Prisoners were sometimes employed in removing the debris of ammunition dumps which had been partially exploded by our airmen, and numerous. deaths were caused by exploding shells. It remains to be seen whether the Home Secretary (Sir (George Cave) will obtain a remedy for 'these savage abominations.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn ■ ; -:
