SEEDY WOOL
Mr. W. S. Bennett, president of the New Zealand Wool Brokers' Association, presided at a conference held in Aucklajid on fcho subject of valuation of seedy wool. Mr. Walter Hill, chief supervising wool valuer, and Mr. T. R. Lees, representing the Department of Imperial Government. Supplies, were also present. Growers' representatives also attended. A general discussion took place as to whether growers were getting the benefit on the 1913-14 prices of 55 per cent, increase. The farmers contended that they were not getting this increase on seedy wools. The contention of the chief supervising valuer was that lie was giving tho full 65 per cent, increase on clean wool, and that the average seedy wool, in regard to which the complaints were made, contained at least 55 per cent. of seed. Tho amount of seedy wool valued at 7d. and under for the whole of New Zealand during tho last season was only one-quarter of 1 per cent, of the clip. The "Star" reports that a motion was carried affirming that evidence in tho possession of a.large number of farmers showed that seedy wool had not realised prices in accordance with the spirit of tho agreement arrived at between tho Government and the. representatives of the woolgrowers, and requesting the Government to inquire further into the matter, with a view of securing prices for seedy wool more in conformity with the agreement.
