MAGISTRATE'S COURT

A short sitting of the Magistrate's Court" was held on Saturday, Mr. F. V. Ji'razer, S.M., presiding. Hugh Docherty pleaded guilty to a charge of drunkenness, and there was ono previous conviction against him. Tho police report was to the effect that accused was given to excessive drinking. The Magistrate, suggested that the accused should consent to a probil'it.ioii order, but Docherty declined the suggestion, but offered as a compromise to "knock it off except at night." Accused ivus convicted, and liucd 10s.. in default 48 hours' imprisonment, and tho Magistrate ordered that proceedings should bo taken against Docherty with a view to tho issue of a prohibition order. An elderly man, named William Barker, against whom there was one previous conviction, ivas convicted and ordered to stay in the Oliiro Home for a period of twelve months. John Driscoll, who failed to appear, had his bail of £1 estreated.

Harry Cotes, for committing a grossly indecent act in Lambtou Quay, was ord'Tcl fi> he imprisoned until the rising of the Court. Cyril John Moron, with failing to make adequate provision for tlie maintenance of his unborn child, ■was remanded lo Temuka. Bail was allowed in- £100, and our surety of £100 or two sureties of ;CoO each.
