THE MILK IMPASSE
COUNCILLOR - ; NORWOOD •■■ OPTIMISTIC..
' The milk impasse caused "by'the at- 1 •titudb of the vendors demanding Cjd. per- gallon to - cover.. . distribution' charges, etc., or Jd..'per gallon more "lliim the' Milk Committee's scheme provided, is not likely to prove a serious obstacle in the progress of .the scheme. When seen yesterday Councillor 'Norwood said that there-would probably be- a development to-day.: The committee was (juite determined to adhere to the sinjrle' company scheme,as the one productive' of the widest' economy, ana that would, he thought,, .be brought about with the approval of the vendors, who'must see that it is to their advantage to accept the scheme that is likely to give them the best; compensation for the loss of their businesses. In the meantime the Milk Committee was goiV into the alterations of the /clearing-station; injDixon Street wttli and getting out. plans that would provide for a place large enough to handle the whole of tho city's, milk- supply. Arrangements were now being- made with Mr. Thomas Ballinger to acquire a portion of_tije land in front of Ballinger and Co. 8 factory (adjoining the clearing station), in order to provide'roonvfor-.tbe carte or motor-vans to enter the premises by ■•one cartway, pull up at the cart-Jugii platforms, and go out another, way. This was impossible in. the premises as thev were to-day, but .with a strip or land from Ballinger and Cp.'s property it could be made convenient for ibe purpose intended.,.- .■
