THE ENGLISH PIERROTS. Tho English Pierrots make their final appoaranco at tho Town Hall to-night, when ii selected and special programme will be presented. The members of tho company who have been indisposed for some days past have recovered normal health. Tho bos plan indicates a, large attendance to bid thin popular band o£ entertainers farewell. The plan will be at tho BriEtol till noon, and after 4 o'clock at the Town Hall or telephone 65.
"MASKS AND FADES" AT THE KING'S. A remarkable collection of celebrities /come together on the screen in tho photopliiy, "Masks and Faces," which commences to-day at tho Kind's Theatra. Tho picture was produced at the invitation of tho Britieh. Academy of Dramatic Art in order to raise funds for patriotic purposes, and practically every prominent actor and actress in England has jjarticipatcd. In addition a prologue has been provided and in this some of the living masters of English literature appear personally on the film. These include such famous men as Bernard Shaw, 6ir J. M. Barrie, Sir George Alexander, Sir Arthur Pinero, Sir John Hare, Sir Squire Bancroft, and others. As is well known the play was written by Oharlee E«ade and Tom Taylor in collaboration, and it ib perhaps the only play which has heen founded on the life of an actress and which has become anything of a classic. The immortal character Triplet is played in this picture by Sir Johnston ForbesRobertson, with Irene Vanbrugh. m the equally famous part of Pec Wofnngton. In our advertising columns will be found a list of some of the others taking part, and It presents a. formidable array of talent. The picture has been produced very ornately, and the splendid dresses reveal the pieturesqueness of the period portrayed. The story is itself a beautiful one, and with such a unique coat it should prove a rare attraction to all interested in dramatic art. The film will certalntly be an historic record of the famous stage personalities in England today.
EVERYBODY'S THEATRE. Aftec a long absence Anita Stewart will again make an appearance bofore Dominion audiences. In "The Daring of Diana," a Yitagraph feature to be shown at Everybody's Theatre to-day, she has splendid opportunities to display those talents which, together with her delightful personality, have made her one of the most popular of screen actresses. She appears as a newspaper gi& who, during the course of her work, stumbles on a plot to defraud the owner of the paper on which she is employed. She appoints herself investigator and gets into some particularly tight corners. There is plenty of excitement and the story unfolds itself naturally and -with increasing tension to the last. There is a second plot running through the drama. It is that of a woman who has been wronged and who seeks justice for her child.
EMPRESS THEATRE. The most notable feature of the Triangle drami "Who Is To Bkana?" to be screened at the Empress Theatre to-day, ie said to be the fine acting and likeable personality of Jack Edde, a. young Japanese, who plays the part first of o. riokehaw boy and afterwards of servant to an American lawyer. A wife returning unexpectedly finds her hueband in compromising ciroumstances, and refuses to be reconciled to hjm. The youns Japanese continues to disillusion his master as to the character of the woman who had caused the trouble, and he manages to bring the husband and wife together again, but in doing so has to sacrifice himself. It is described as a most appealing etory* delightfully produced, and with a continual element of the unexpected. Jack Livingston, Maud Wayne, and Lilian West have prominent parts, and are said to acquit themselves with credit.
AR.TOEAFT THEATRE. . Oharles Kay, one of the most popular of the screen's younger players, is appqaring in a brand-new Paramount picture, entitled "The Hired Man," which heads to-day's change of programme at the Artcraft Theatre, Thorndon. In Mr, Bay's work there is an nneiplainable quality that firmly entrenches him in the heart of each spectator. "The Hired Man," it l> stated, contains a particularly appealing and interesting story that gives the star Bpecial latitude for his style of characterisation. It is a. production that fairly teems witU atmosphere. There aro real scenes filaed at the California Pair, whicn was held near Los Angeles, and shows many of tho standard Fair attractions, including- a balloon ascent. There ie also a second star attraction on this programme, foaturing Pauline Frederiok in "Madame Jealousy," a story written round tho good and evil that 'abound in modern society.
DANOE EEOITAIi. Much intereet ie being shown in the dance recital to bo given by Miss Estollo Beore at the Grand Opera House on October 11 and 12. Groat enthueiasm ie being displayed at the rehearsale. and everything is now ready for the opening night. Miss Bcoro has invented and arranged somo fascinating ballets, groupings, and classic and dramatic solos, and bosldee old favourites new faces will' be seen. _ The dressQß are daintily designed. Their Excellencies tho Governor-General and the Oountoss of Liverpool have signified thoir intention of bolng present. The recitals are being organised by Mrs. W. P. Maseey, 0.8. E., and the ladies of the Thorndon Rod Cross Committee. The box plan will open on Monday next at the Bristol.
