Mr. F. V. Frazer, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court yesterday, and dealt with the pnlico cases. For' insobriety a first offender who failed to appear had his bail -oF IDs. estreated. Stephen Quinu, against whom thero was a previous conviction, was fined 10s., in default 48 hours' imprisonment. Arthur Lawton Stevens, who had been twice previously convicted, had his bail of £'3 estreated. A plea of uot guilty was entered by Daniel Murphy, who was charged with stealing a pair of boots valued at 265. od.. the property of Lindsay, Ltd., and 011 the application of the police ho was remanded until Monday. Bail was allowed in the sum of £25 and ono surety of £20. William Ha yd en was charged *,vitn the theft of a ladder valued at 2n5... the property of the New Zealand Government. The accused admitted having taken the ladder - from . Parlianv-infc Buildings, but stated; that- he had had no intention of retaining it after he bad effected some minor repairs to .his house in Sydney Street. Hie explanation w:i;s not considered satisfactory by the Magistrate, who imposed a fino ot £3, in default 14 days' imprisonment.

JUDGMENT SUMMONS. Judgment summons cases were dealt with as follow: liarrv 11. Bates was ordered to pay Mildciiliall £9 by October 24, in default seven days imprisonment, and James Ross yaser was ordered to pay Agnes Ilood £10 7s, by the same (late, or undergo a week's imprisonment.
