PARLIAMENTARY PROCEDURE
Sir,—l understand tliat, prior to talcing a scat in the Hou.Vo of jßepresentatives, every successful candidate for Parliamentary honours must take the oath of allegiance to His Majesty the King. Assuming that a man of the I.W.W. persuasion applied for tlie administration of this oath. What would be the duty of the Government? Or does the wording of the oatli njake provision for such cases? A reprint of the declaration in question in your widely circulating paper would he read with intense interest by all law-abid-ing subscribers. —I am, etc., OLD SETTLER.
[Section 46 of tlie New Zealand Constitution Act provides that a member of the Legislature shall take the Oath of Allegiance before occupying his seat. The Oath of Allegiance is as follows: —
''1,. , do swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to His Majesty King George V, his heirs and successors, according to law. So help me God."]
