THE CROSS OF MERCY
The figure' of'the Red Cross nursein this war has become symbolical of all'that is good and-'merciful .through all the Allied armies. Few people, however, realise how wide and.i'arreachiug are the activities of the British Red Cross Society. It is this great society which equips and staffs hospitals, provides ambulances, hospital trains, launches,, rest stations, medicine and hospital stores and comforts, entertains the sick and convalescent, provides food and clothing for prisoners of war, cares for the graves of the fallen, and helps and trains the crippled and maimed. Of all patriotic appeals, that of the "Our Day Flag Drive" should surely take first place in the consideration of the public. Without the Red Cross none of our armies could last. On another page an appeal is made for funds for this great society, and it is hoped that the public will respond generously.
