BOWLS
PENNANT FIXTURES FOR THE SEASON. The bowling season will open in earnest on Saturday next. Though the weather hag been distinctly unpleasant, and against the best influences of ■ spring, many of the greens are in excellent condition, though naturally on the soft side after the drenchiug showers of Tuesday night. In some cases the opening ef the greens will take place, and there- will be full play on Saturday afternoon, but during, the succeeding week tho greens will not be available for play until the Saturday. This will give the softer greens a chance to harden a little, particularly Jf the rain holds off.. During October all greens in Wclihigton require to be nursed more or less. The value of doing so will be appreciated in' the succeeding February and March. For that reason;-among other, tho pennant comes will not commenco until November 2 —four weeks hence.
