THE NAVY LEAGUE

The monthly meeting of the Executive Committee of the. Wellington Branch of the Navy League was held at.the league's offices on Tuesday afternoon. There were present Mr. J. B. Har-court-(in tlio chair), Colonel G. F. C. Campbell, Messrs. A. Atkins, AV. Foster, C. AV. Palmer, C. R. Smith, Barry Keesing, T. Burt, fl, Darroch, A. F. AViren, Mesdames Hall-Thompson and Honeywood-Martin, aiid Miss GiffordLauronson. The Educational , - Sub-committee reported that it had considered the suggestion made by Colonel Campbell that regular picture entertainments of educational value should be given for school members of the league. The sub-committee approved of the suggestion; and as a first step the picture proprietors are being interviewed with the purpose of ascertaining if they will assist in providing suitable programmes throughout the year. These will include general educational subjects, but it is proposed that some or tne programmes should bo specially arranged for Navy League work. Jl'r. AV. Foster, chairman of the Educational Subcommittee, spoke enthusiastically in support of the proposal to nee moving pictures as an educational' medium. It was decided to approach tlie lOdiioation Board and the Headmasters' Association in order to secure their co-opera-tion. It was reported that more than 200(1 school members had been enrolled during the year, and a suggestion that prizes should bo distributed amongst the- school branches was approved. The meeting authorised the expenditure of a sum sufficient to provide prizes on n. ton per cent, basis, according to membership of the school branches. The meeting expressed grent appreciation of the work accomplished Jjy tho Ladies' Auxiliary during the year, and on the motion of Jlr. C. 1L Smith absolution to this effect was carried with applause. The report of the committee set up to make suggestions, for the celebration of Nelson Day was approved. The report mentioned that patriotic picture entertainments for sebon! members would lie arranged at the Star, King's, and Empress Theatres. Several naval officers will be asked to "ivo addrosses at the respectivo theatres. It was decided to hold a social evening in the Concert (Jluimbm , , Town Hall, for Navy Leagim members and their friends, for which a suitable programme is being arranged.
