CHAMPIONSHIP TO OPEN ON OCTOBER 12. A mooting of tho Wellington Cricket Association was held last evening, llr. C. G. Wilson presiding. Mr. Wilson was elected chairman for tho ensuing year. It was decided that entries for all championships closo on Tuesday next,_ and will bo, considered at tho mooting of the committee in the evening. ■ Messrs. Orchard' mid Austin, of Christehurch, wero appointed delegates to tho annual meeting of tho New Zealand Cricket Council. It was decided that tho delegates should have a free hand in discussing tho question of whether Flunkct Shield matches bo rosumed or not, and in the event of their to support a motion that players in camp be allowed to play for their own province at time of entering caiqp. Messrs. Wilson, Baker, and Bennett wero appointed a senior championship and ground committee. The junior and third-class championship committeo will comprise Messrs. Howlett, Granger, and Hughes; Tho selection committee will be Messrs. Price, Crombi6, and Tucker. It was decided to commence practico on the Basin Bcservo on October 5, and to make a beginning with the on October 12, PUBLIC SCHOOLS' ASSOCIATION. Tho Wellington Public Schools' Cricket Association, in its report, says: "Twenty teams' took part in tho town competitions—six senior, six intermediate, and eight junior. Your committee note 3 with pleasure a revival of interest in cricket in tho Hutt Valley schools during tho season. The annual representative game against the Wairarapa -schools, played at Masterton in December last, resulted in a win for the city team, their first success for live years, In April a city team journeyed to Lower Hutt to play a Valjey team, winning the game by an innings. On both occasions the visiting boys and teachers were hospitably entertained by tho home teams. During the ycur the. war has levied further toll on our nioinbers. Mr. S. Marsden, of tho Terrace' School, was killed Inst March in the fight for Amiens, and Messrs. F. J. Beechey (South Wellington) and H. Sanson (Karori) laid down their lives at the Battle of the Marne in July To the relatives of those gentlentrii wo would extend our sympathy. The balance-sheet, duly audited and found correct, shows a credit of £7 Bs. 7d."
