A return match between the Masterton and Rototawai Golf Clubs was, played at Masterton on Saturday, and resulted in a win< for the home team by seven games to three. The takings at the Masterton patriotic shop oh Saturday, which are in aid of the dependants of British sailors, amounted to the splendid' sum of £339 18s. 10d. The Wairarapa branch of the J'ost and Telegraph Officers' ■ Association passed a number of remits at its quarterly meeting for consideration at the forthcoming conference in Masterton. The niost important remits deal with classification and the cost of living.
The following resolution was passed at a meeting of the Masterton branch of the A.S.R.S.: "That we urge upon the Executive Council of the A.S.LI.S. the need to assist the Wellington tramwaymen in every possible ivay_ in. their efforts to obtain a scarcely living wage. AVe regret the attitude taken up council in refusing the men's just demands." No bankruptcies have beeii recorded in the Wairarapa during the month of September. . , It is expected that cricket in. Mastertbn in the coming season will be confined almost entirely to matches between local teams and teams from the Featherston Military Camp. A School. Committee Association has beeu'formed, : for' North rWiurarapa,' with headquarters in Masterton. It is intended"to affiliate with other asso- : ciations in the district, v The Masterton .'branch i> of| ; the A.S.B.S. has passed, the following.rekolution: "That this meeting of. members of the Masterton branch of'tne A.S.R.S. repudiates the action of the general secretary, Mr. M. J. Mack, in attempting to split Labour in tho Wellington Central election. We further exhort all workers to support the cfiicial Labour Party candidate, Mr. P. Eraser." ' A military church parade' was hold in Greytowti'on Sunday, in St. Luke's Church. The Forty-Seventh Specialist Company from Papawai were present. Major' Newcomb (Adjutant, Featherston Camp), Major Hursthouse, Captain Smith (Commandant Papawai Camp), the ; local Mayor, with his councillors, members of the. friendly societies, and nurses from the hospital, andthe Fire Brigade, were present. Captain Compton conducted the service, and s military orchestra rendered tho musical portion.' A collection was taken up on behalf of the Red Cross Copper Trail and Lady Liverpool Committees. The church was filled, and a good collection was taken. A lecture, illustrated by lantern .slides, was • given at Greytown, under : the auspices of the International Biblo Students' Association. It was given free, ami no collection was taken. The lecture and illustrations were very much appreciated by a full house.
