AMALGAMATION WITH ONSLOW
FIRST STEPS TAKEN. There now appears to be little doubt that of the three boroughs adjacent to Wellington city_ On slow is likely to lie the first to join up with the city. Before the fortnightly meeting of theFinance Committee yesterday theMayor of Onslow (Mr. J. M. Dale) and Councillor A. B. Topi) waited on the Mayor of Wellington (Mr. J. P. Luke) to explain the true inwardness of- tho conditions they had laid down ae a. basis for the consideration of amalgam mation (which have already been net. out in these columns).
Subsequently, at the meeting of the" Finance Committee, the report of Messrs. J. Ames and C. Collins in. amalgamation with Onslow- was received. Tbis' report contained a conr sidorable amount-of da r ta concerning ■fliew borough f.nd its affairs, which coulcft scarcely be assimilated there and theft by the members of the.committee in the time at their disposal.. They will be given time to consider the report, and later a report will bo presented to the council. "Generally speaking," said the Mayor, "thb feeling of the committee is favourable to the proposals as Mibmitted. You may say that tnost prob'ably initiatory steps will bo taken «b the next meeting of the City Council to bring about amalgamation." The Mayor stated that Messrs. Ames and Collins had also reported about the Karori Borough, but so far there has been no time to give the ; report any consideration. That will Kβ done in due course.
