Red Cross Mealing at Mrs. Massoy's,

The committee of tho Thorndon Red j Cross Day met at Mrs. Massey's yos- ] terday, to make the necessary arrangements with regard to Miss Bcore's dance recital, half the proceeds of which will bo given to the fted Cross funds. Mrs. Mfissey said that the Bed.Cross Shop Committee had agreed lo allow the Thorndon Day ladies to forego their cake day at the Red Cross Shop, as they v/cro so extremely busy with the projected dance recital and tho . flag drive. A number of kdios had been very successful in their canvass of certain streets in. Thorndon, and had already sold quite a satisfactory number, of flags. ■ With'regard to tlic recital \ arrangements were made for the sale of tickets, and ushers-were appointed, and ticket ' collectors. . Mrs. Burton agreed to undertake tho advertising, and tho box plan will bo opened at the Bristol. Miss lieero was present, and JUrs.. llobieson agreed to design three posters. Tho Countess of Liverpool has promised to be present. It was decided that sweets should be sold. Ihfr, D. T. Stewart and Mrs. Gillon undertook to sell sweets on the first night. The Thorndon Girls' Club is to be asked to sell them on tho second night.

Lieut.-Coloner and Mrs. Macdonell (Hastings) are staying in Christchurch. Dr. and Mrs. Tosswill (Hastings) aro on a visit to Wellington. Dr. "Eleanor Baker has returned to Christchurch. Mr. and Mrs. Gilford Moore (Wan'ganui), wlio have been spending a holiday iu Napier, have returned. Miss E. A very successful fancy-dress ball was held in tho skating rink by tho members of tho Girls'.Club, in aid of funds for the Aotea Convalescent Homo in Egypt. Mr. L.Giesen (convict), was awarded first prize; for most original gentleman's costume.. . St. Mary of the Angsts Bazaar. Tho queen competition at St. Mary of tho .Angels bazaar at tho Town Hall showed Miss 13. Haekett, .tho'"Hostel Queen" on top last evening with a total of 19,090 votes, followed by tho "Altar Society Queen" (Miss E. O'Urien) with 15,&iU votes, and the "Hibernian Quisen" in third place (Miss M. Griffin) with 15,695 votes. Owing to the indisposition of sonic- of tho pupils of Miss Doris Guise, this lady was not able to stago her performance. Her place was taken by Misses K. O'Jirien, Goodfollow, Bolton, Moha O'JJncn, and Messrs. A. H. Darflus and L. Lewis. Miss Edwards was also, by reason of indisposition, uniihlo to appear. During the evening prizes were won by Miss IC. Knight, Miss Maggie O'Connor, Miss Doreen Kenedy, aiid Miss Denne'hy. Mr. "Wolfgang and party supplied the orchestral music.
