LABOUR LEADERS AND LOYALTY

Sir,—l attended Mr. Hildreth's meeting last evening for the sole purpose of hearing that gentleman's reasons for advocating a platform that he must know is not acceptable to the party lo which he is allied. During his address he made a sa-tement that tho-. leading men in the Labour Party wore, not loyal. I immediately rose, and. said, "As. a, Labour leader and an exsoldier, I challenge that statement." AVhen the question time came the chairman gave mn an opportunity to make a statement, which I did; but as your report does not fairly put my case, I crave this opportunity to explain. I said that whilst I was president of the AVellington North branch of the Labour Party I was just as loyal to my country as Mr. Hildreth or his sons wjio were on active- service. I had joined the party because they advocated the same principles as Christ did, and that Mr. Hildroth's statement, alone with the statements made by the daily papers, were absolutely uncalled for and untrue. Someone called out, "Would you sing 'God Save the King?'" 'I replied then, and I repeat hero, "Yes."—l am, etc, ' F. EVANS. President AVellington North Labour Party. September 28.
