HIDE AND TALLOW SALE
■The fortnightly sales of hides and tallow were held yesterday by. tho various brokers. Messrs. Dalgety and Co. report that price 3 for hides, aa compared with last sale, were about the same rate, while super calfskins showed an increase of 3d. per lb. Tallow values were a shade easier. The New Zealand Loan .and Mercantile Aaehcy Co., Ltd., offered a. fair-sized catalogue of hides, qalfslrins, and tallow. The demand was good for tallow and calfskins. The firm obtained from 19gd. to 20d. for best lines of the latter. Hides were not so keenly competed for. Messrs. Murray, Eoborts and Co. offered a .catalogue of 500 hides and 800 calfskins, besides oddments of tallow. Prices for cow hides were firm, ox being a shade easier. Calfskins advanced sharply, showing up to 3d. per lb. over last Bale's rates for superior light calf. Tallow sold at about last sale's prices, aooording. to quality. Messrs. Levin and Co. report that tho hide market was firm all round at last sale's rulings. Calfskins wore in keen demand at prices ranging from 2jd. to 3d. 'per lb. above the prioes obtained a fortnight ago. Tallow was about the same ai last sale's rates.
/Messrs. Abraham and Williams report that calfskins realised the extreme price of 213 d. Heavy, ox ;hidea showed a decline compared with last sales, also hides of Inferior qualities. ■' t The WaJrarapa' Formers' 00-oporative. Calf skins continue to attraot full competition at Inereased orioes. Tho firm disposed of a very good line of 54 calfskins at J!l3cl. Elb.; other lines in proportion accordto quality. Tallow, in casks, was hUy easier, but odd lines in tins were about steady. The range of prices was as follows:— ;.
