Adelaide, September 27. In the Legislative Assembly, the' Premier (tho Hon. A. H. Pearce), referring to'tho. police strike, said the Government was calling on all municipalities to appoint-vigilant committees, arid special constables.—Press A'Ssn.
[On September 15 the members of the South Australian Polico Forco threatened to resign within a month on account of insufficient- pay. For scmo considerable time the N ' members havo been agitating for an increase in wages. The principal ground for their complaint is that, although the cost of living has increased within ; tlio last few,, years, they have not been granted n rise to meet;the filtered conditions. Until recently the amount paid tlio men on joining Jhb force was ss. a day, and if tlioy did not reside at barracks vor stations they received Is. a allowance in lieu of ■ quarters. " Since the Pension Act came into force each member has bcen.i compelled to contribute so much monthly to the. fund, end it is contended; that this, coupled with-the payments made to the widows and orphans'' fund, has reduced the daily wage to well below what is-known astho "bread lino." As each watch came off duty on September 15 the men wroto out their resignations.]
