RAILWAYMEN AND MR. MACK
A Press Association' message states that at a meeting of the Waipukurau branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants; held on Tuesday ■ evening last, the following motion was ■unanimously passed in favour of Mr. Slack, the general secretary of the society:—"lt is the unanimous wish of tho Waipukurau branch, that you succeed in tho election campaign for. Wellington Central seat. The branch protests against the treatment meted out to you oy irresponsibles." A Press Association message states that a combined meeting of the Canterbury, Lyttelton, Rangiora, and Addington branches of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants passed the following resolution: "That this meeting entirely' dissociate itself from the aotion of the general secretary (Mr. M." J.- Mack) in his action in entering the political contest as an Independent Labour candidate for Wellington Central ; that we believe \Tiis action to Ift inimical to the best interests of Labour, and pledge our moral and financial support to the official Labour xnominee, Mr. Fraser." Resolutions,protesting against Mr. Mack's candidature were also passed by tho Taihape and Hastings branches of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants and by a. Labour meeting held at Burnett's Face.
Mr. 11. J. Mack will address the electors &t the Willis Street State School at 8 o'clock to-morrow night. ' Mr. T. Blopdworth, secretary of the Auckland Carpenters' and Joiners.' Union, has telegraphed to the secretary of the L.R.C. as follows:—"Auckland Carpenters' "Union wish success to Labour's. offioial candidate, P. Fraeor, in election, and regret that attempt should be made to divide Labour vote by unofficial Labour candidate." Mr. P..Fraser will hold twri meetings to-night—one at St. Peter's Schoolroom, Ghuznee Street, and the other at the Alexandra Hall, Abel Smith Street. Mr. Parlane will preside at St. Peter's, and Mr. T. Young at the Alexandra Hall. .- Besides the candidate, Mr. J. M'Combs, M.P., the Hon. J. T. Paul, and Mr. H. t. Holland.. M.P., will speak at both halls. Advice received in Wellington yesterday stated that at a large meeting of the P.P.A. in tho Town Hall, Auckland, on Tuesday'night, when 8000 people were present, a resolution was unanimously carried appealing to the Protestants of Wellington! 1 Central to support the candidature of Mr. M. J. Mack.
