FEDERAL BUDGET
INCREASE IN TAXATION. (Rec. September 26, 1.40 a.m.) Melbourne, September 25. The Acting Prime Minieter, Mr. Watt, in his Budget,' said that the estimated war expenditure for 1918-19 was £100,014,411, and tho total, war expenditure out of loan nnd revoiiue to the end of 1918-19 would be £284,640,608. The war loans totalled £235,138,'486. The new taxes include a 30 per cent, increase in tho income tax, a 20 per cent, increaso iir tho land tax, a half-penny postage tax, and additional entertainment, Customs, excise, and bachelor taxos.—Press'Assn.,
