MR. HILDRETH'S CANDIDATURE
The Hon. W. D. S. Mao Donald and Sir James. Allen yesterday issued the following signed statement:— "When tlio National Government was formed an honourable understandiiur was arrived at io tlie effect that, if during its term of office a member belonging to eitlior party died or for any reason retired from Parliament, the leader of the party to tvhich such member belonged should approve a candidate for the\v-election thus rendered necessary, aiid such nomination would be supported by the leader erf the other side of polities. "Under this arrangement Mr. W. Hildretb. has been recommended for the coming«by-election in Wellington Central as a, supporter of tbe National Government. Tho reoommendation is approved, and, in compliance with the understanding referred to, we strongly recommend him for the support of the electors of Wellington Central."
