In the last, hour they made a good "lato run,", scoring-tho'remain-ing four games, thus' winning- the ■match by eight games to three. Tho "Wellington Club's championship tourney was advanced n further Stage last week as follows':—Mason I v.' Godtschalk 0," Godtschallj I v. Anderson 0, and Davies 1 v. Mason 0. The games James v. Mackny and Still v. 'Clark stand adjourned, the first-named •holding the advantage in each easel The bout bptween Mason and Davies, the two leaders, was closely watched '.by a good number of enthusiasts, who found the play both interesting and/ instructive.- In the course'of his attack Davies loft pieces en prise which his opponent dared not'capture, and in sustaining the attack ho was not afraid to throw up tho pawns in front of hfs /castled King, one of which he succeed- ■' ed in queening, Mason then resigning without further play. It Was Very line chess all tho way. Davies is 'now-'end-ing'with tally of eleven wins and one draw. Mason copies iftj.t (II—1), and Messrs. Barnes, Godtschalk, Still, James, and Kelling aro also well to the fore., This week's game between Messrs. Barnes end Davies is being looked forward to with "■nnnidarablo interest.'
