All the different stalls had been placed underneath the gallery, and each one had been decorated with a, trellis work carried out in ribbon and draped with iiags and other bright materials, while their contents included articles d overy possible kind, many of them being exceedingly handsome and of unusual value.. Beautiful needlework, novelties, dainty littlo finishes, for toilette wear, artistic, hand-worked hatbards, camisoles, silverware, f pictures, sweets, fruit, children's'garments, articles for the linen cupboard, etc;, comprised only some of the many thiugs for salo, and sorno very handsome articles were being raffled. A Christmas treo laden with balloons of the gayest possible colours, instead of toys, was distinctly decorative, . and a Father Christmas was in charge. , Her Excellency the Countess .of Liverpool and Mayoress (Mrs. J. P. Luke) wero received by Mrs. Corrigan, Father Mahoney, and father Hoaro, S.M., and m welcoming. Lady Liverpool Father Mahoney thanked' Her Excellency for coniii;g to open the bazaar that evening, and referred to the sympathetic spirit that'had impelled her and tho Mayoress (Mrs. Luke) to help by their preseuco thero that evening.. such a cause as that for which tho bazaar had been organised. '■ After the burning of St. Mary's, explained the speaker, a meeting had been held to consider the position, subscriptions had been received, and it had been decided that a. big bazaar; was one of tho best ways in which funds oould be raised for the rebuilding of the church. The greatest enthusiasm had been- shown in the matter, and those responsible in any way for the bazaar had been working since almost day avid night to secure its success; Practically everything had been done in the way ol] preparations in a very little more than three months. Father Mahoney concluded by expressing much indebtedness to Mr. Malini for gratuitously giving nightly exhibitions of legerdemain, and to those ladies whose pupils were giving exhibitions of dancing.; x Her Excellency, who tvas presented with a jcharming bouquet fastened with crimson streamers,. in declaring' the bazaar open, made a brief speech expressing her sympathy with' the object for which it had been organised, and congratulating those responsiblefor tl\c results of their work as seen in Hie hall that evening. " She hoped that all possible success.would attend their efforts.. _ An orchestra provided musical selections, Mr. • Malini gave some, of his wonderful conjuring,, and Miss Bcere's pupils gave some very pretty fancy dances;. Hackett; committee, Mesdames C. O'Driscoll, D. Dalttfh, It!. Dwyer, A. jScott,. Somerville, Compton, Tasker, Rafter, M. Carney, ' D. P. Healy, H. M'Keown, and Halpin; Misses M. Kent, IC. Whelan, M. Lnwier, Loftman, M. Neumann, E. O'Brien, A. C. Kennedy, K, Keating, and Mooney, Messrs. IT. M'Keown, E. J. Healy, D. M'Phoc, L. Carroll, '1$ O'Brien, P. D. Hoskins, J. 'J. L. Buvko, J. Taylor, 0. Krohn, J. M'Gowan, W. Brady, J. Hayden, Loftus, Conroy, Rafter, I'M, Treacy. Marshall, Lennon, and Major Halpin. A queen competition is being held in connection' with the bazaar. Every threepence made by the various stalls is credited as a voto to tho queens of those respective staJlß, and the total votes and winning al the queen competition will be reckoned onthe total net proeeds made by the various stalls. Tho queens are as follow:—Hostel Stall, Miss Bi Hackett; Altar Society Stall, Miss Eileen O'Brien; Brooklyn Stall, Miss Leonora Cassin'; Children of Mary, Miss AV. Davis; Hibernian Stall; Miss Maureen Orifiin. The bazaar will continue until October 9, and for each- evening various attractions'in tlio way of dancing, exhibitions of legerdemain by Mr. Malini, etc., have been provided.'
A meeting of the Women's Branch of tho Wellington Red Cross, the Wellington Nursing Division, and tho Citizens' Service League lias been called by tho Mayoress (Mrs. J. P. Luke) for to-morrow afternoon at' 3 o'clock in tho Town Hall, to arrange details in connection with the Red Cross Flag Drjye. It is hoped there will bo a good" attendance, as tho more people who are present the better will the work bo distributed, and tho easier will it be to secure successful results..
