SERIOUS CASES AMONG THE SICK, j —: i The Minister of Defence has received \ further advice about the health of the sick among tbe Fortieth Reinforce- i ments, landed in England somo days ' ago, from the troopship' on which a severe epidemic-caused serious loss of life. The Minister* gave particulars of the advice he had received from General .Richardson, saying that he deem- j ed it wiso to give out all possible in- : formation as soon as it was available in order' to allay anxiety. Telegrams had been sent to the next-of-kin of the men mentioned, lut it was possible) that tlie telegrams would not reach them' before "the news was published. Ho hoped that none of the next-of-kin. would bo aggrieved on this account. General Richardson reported thai tho sick rate among the troops was >still diminishing. The total number in Fago Hospital, Salisbury Plain, was 41, of whom all were doing well except 71,202 Gunner J. Dunn., dangerously ill. The number in Codford is 116, of whom the following are dangpronslv ill: 79,279 Re. A. W. Moody, 42,965 Gnr. A. V. Scaly. 70.311 Pte. G. 13. Rodaer. • Also seriously ill, 76.576 Pte. T. fcelliher, 79,352 Pte. S. G. Skinner, 74,906 S. A. Chisholm (rank in this case not telegraphed). The medical officers at Codford are hopeful that there will be no further mortality.
