TRAIN AND LORRY COLLIDE
MASTER.TON RESIDENT SERIOUSLY INJURED.
, By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent. Masterton, September 23. A serious accident occurred at a crossing near Masterton railway station this afternoon. Mr. Hobert Beattic, of the firm of Fly, Young, am] Beattie, carriers, was proceeding over the crossing in a motor lorry, when a train from tho north 'lashed upon him, carrying tho lorry for about thirty yards and hopelessly it. Mr. Beattie was thrown heavily and sustained severe injuries to his head and body. Ho has been admitted to_ the hospital in a bad condition, and it is feared bo may lose one eye. Tho train engine was damaged and a fresh cngino had to be put on. The crossing at which the accident occurred is regarded as highly dangerous, as the approach of a train is hidden from view by a building in the neighbourhood.
