' MAYORAL AMENITIES. When the news was received in Wellington that the Auckland people had reached this city with their copper trail for the Rod Cross Fund, the Mavor (Mr. J. P. Luke) Bent a telegram to Mr. J. H. Gunson, Mayor of Aucldand, congratulating him on. the fine performance tlio Auckland province had put up. Mr.. Gunson has replied:—"l have to thank you Ifor your wire respecting the Jesuit- of the copper trail contest .Our only regret is. that the competition did not further stimulate your province." In MessTß Kirkcaldie and Stains's window at present is a striking larged photograph which is_ designed to prompt the younger'generation to assist tlio oopper trail. The subject of tho picture, a little hoy 4 years old, handed in 564 pennies (£2 75.) which, piled one on top of the other, measured 3ft. 3in., the height of the donor.
