A STOPWORK MEETING

During the past'month'..Wellington •has witnessed extraordinarily large demands being made for increased wages and better conditions on the :part or all. those.w.oi'ke'rs who.arc engaged directly or indirectly iui transport work. The trouble commenced with the coal miners,' who: are ■ still- considering the •employers': offer.'; .-and-has spread-to the Wellington-tramway :men; .the Government railway.men, and the drivers. •;. -The member's' .of the • Wellington .Waterside Workers' Union held a stopwork meeting inthe Artcraft. Theatre, 'Sydney Street, between 8' a.m. and 10.30 aJn.'-vesterday,' the c president (Mr. L. .Glover) presiding. There •were between 1000.and. 1100 men present. ' Mr. Glover,- when asked for a report, of the meeting, raid'that matters of importance were • received from the executive, discussed, and decisions were arrived at. It was decided to donate £10-to the Labour' Day. Sports fund,'and a committee was appointed to inquire into the finance and management of the new Trades Hall. Asked, if any. resolution was passed in connection. with the local tramway trouble, Mr.. Glover replied in the negative. ..-.'.- . '.'.'.'.
