Mr. C. A." AVoolley, who was superintendent.of the' Auckland Fire Brigade until March.last, when he resigned the office after three months of sick leUve, died at Auckland on Tuesday at the ago of 53. The'late Sir. AVoolley received his early training as a fire-fignter with the London Fire Brigade,.and in 1888 took up the position of second officer to the Adelaide Fire Brigade, 'Frotn Adelaide .he went-to Auckland, taking'-lip the superintendency of the local brigade'towards'tbe end ; of 1901.

Corporal Cornelius Patrick Lynch, Ist Battalion, Now. Zealand Riflo Brigade, eldest son of Mr. John Lynch, of Lower Hutt, died of wounds in France on September 3. He left' New Zealand in October, 1915, saw service in Egypt, and fougiit in the big battles of the Sommc, Messines, and • l'asschendaelo and the latest offensive. The deceased soldier was educated at the Lower Hutt Convent School and St. Patrick's Collego, Wellington.. Ho was well known iu Wellington and Manawatu districts..

News has been received at Dunedin of the. death of- two well-known brothers:; Private Albert Edwin Brown Williams, killed in action on August 25, and Gunner Frederick Walter Drown 'Williams, died of sickness on September 4. The former was a prominent Dunedin Rugby footballer, playing for the Alh'ambra Club. He represented Otago on fifteen occasions between 1910 and. 1913. Another brother, Private James Williams, was killed in October, 1917. • ■
