Aliae Dunn "The Bold Sojor Boy," produced by Ml , . Allen Doonc at the Grand Opera. Houee, is nn Irieh-American comedy with a strong vein of melodrama to brace it, from every angle, and to give that disparity between the truo and the brave and tho false and blackguardly its proper relationship. In this. play, whioh has a wholly American settins, and with characters that affect an lrieh brogue. Mr. Doone is young Lieutenant Adair, .a breezy young officer, with a past, who dares to love Helen, the beautiful dauehtor of Captain Fitzgerald, O.C. of Fort Wadeworth. Hβ has a nasty rival iu Captain Thorndyke, who, working with "Dutch Pete," attempts in several ways to bring ruin upon Adair. The dramatic climax- arrives when Thorndyke, attempting to steal the seoTet plans of a new Run, is fought by Adair and Mrs. Baseott (the inventor's wife). In order to wriggle out of the crime, Thoi'udyke accuses Adttir of besmirching Colonel DasseU's honour, and things look blacK for the innocent pair until Adair'i law-yor-friend turns up and Btraightens matters out. In the end Adair turns , out to bo a. RlieteninE hero, by name Gerald Clfl.re,and tliat he wins the fair, Helen is only what was to be expeoled after hie exciting,' experiences. Mr. Doone exacts the role of-Lieutenant Adair with his usual tang froid. No one expects Mr. Doone to be anyone other than Mr. Doone, and audiences would not have him any other way. His is the buccess of personality. Miss Edna Keeley was quite charming as Uolun, and Mr. Onslow Edgeworth makes a very persistent villain of Captain Thorndyke. Miss Ethel Bashford, who is always. Batißfyinß. appeared ne Mrs. Bassett, and , Mr. Frank Oullinane as . Colonel Bassett. Mr. George Hewlett was effective as Guetavus van flarhm ' ("Dutch Pete"), and Mr. P. Buckley was Captain Fitzgerald. . "The Bold Sojer Boy" will bo repeated this evening, and to-morrow night and on Saturday "Molly Ba-wn" will-be revived.
